Natural Gas Pipelines

Appalachian Mountain Advocates has been working to stop the natural gas pipelines in our region for nearly a decade. Our litigation helped stop the Atlantic Coast Pipeline. We also established innovative legal precedent preventing FERC’s longstanding practice of using tolling orders to prevent meaningful challenges to proposed pipelines throughout the country. Our litigation has added billions of dollars and several years of delay to the costs of many other gas infrastructure projects, including the Mountain Valley Pipeline.

This work is important. Gas development is an expensive and destructive investment into a fossil fuel with significant climate impacts. Gas leaks at every part of its journey — from the well, during transportation along pipelines, at power plants, and in the homes and businesses where it is burned. These leaks introduce significant amounts of methane. Building out gas infrastructure also encourages further drilling of gas wells, and discourages future investment in affordable clean energy solutions.
